Hump Day Lines: Round 2

Dusty Lines for Footy Inc.

There were a few upsets in round 1 but that is no excuse with line tipping. Only one of our tipsters managed a positive win/loss ratio. For the rest of us it was pretty ugly.

Here are the standings after round 1:

Richmond +3.5 / Collingwood -3.5

Both of these teams performed well in round 1, the Tigers with a big win over lowly Carlton and the Pies with an honourable loss over last year’s premiers.

In round 2 last year the Pies beat the Tigers by 1 point with the last kick of the game.

The line suggests this will be another close one but our players are lining up for Collingwood.

Richmond +3.5 points – Shan

Collingwood -3.5 points – Dusty, Big O, Moose Dogs, TRM, Ding Dong, Hollywood

Western Bulldogs -10.5 / Sydney +10.5

Last year’s grand finalists match off at Etihad Stadium and the Swans will have a lot to prove not only after the grand final loss but also after a poor showing in round 1 against Port Adelaide.

This should be a cracking Friday night match. The majority are taking the Swans to get within 10.5 points of the Bulldogs.

Western Bulldogs -10.5 points – Dusty, Big O, Hollywood

Sydney +10.5 points – Shan, Moose Dogs, TRM, Ding Dong

Hawthorn +5.5 / Adelaide -5.5

These teams played at the MCG early in the 2016 season and that resulted in a narrow win (3 points) for the Hawks but important player changes, particularly for Hawthorn, make this a significantly different proposition.

I’m leaning toward Adelaide covering the 5.5 point line (along with the rest of the league).

Hawthorn +5.5 points – none

Adelaide -5.5 points – Dusty, Shan, Big O, Moose Dogs, TRM, Ding Dong, Hollywood

GWS -37.5 / Gold Coast +37.5

As the line suggests, this should be a big win for GWS at home. When these two teams played at Spotless Stadium last year the Giants won by almost 100 points.

I get the feeling the Giants will do the same again.

GWS -37.5 points – Dusty, Shan, Big O, TRM

Gold Coast +37.5 points –Moose Dogs, Ding Dong, Hollywood

Brisbane +17.5 / Essendon -17.5

There’s no point looking at the results from last year because the Bombers are a completely different team.

The Lions just held on to win against the Suns last week but the Bombers will be a tougher opponent coming off a 25 point win over the Hawks.

Brisbane +17.5 points – Moose Dogs, Ding Dong, Hollywood

Essendon -17.5 points – Dusty, Shan, Big O, TRM

West Coast -33.5 / St Kilda +33.5

The Eagles beat the Saints in the west last year by 103 points. St Kilda should put up a much better fight this time around but the Eagles showed great form in round 1 with a 43 point win over the Kangaroos in Melbourne and they are always better in the west.

On that basis I think they’ll cover the 33.5 point line.

West Coast -33.5 points – Dusty, Shan, Big O, Moose Dogs, TRM, Ding Dong

St Kilda +33.5 points – Hollywood

Geelong -29.5 / North Melbourne +29.5

Will North bounce back after a disappointing opening match against the Eagles? Will Geelong back up their impressive 42 point win over the Dockers in the west?

Geelong needs to cover a 29.5 point line. Solely because this Cats home game is at Etihad Stadium and not down in Geelong I think the Kangaroos can keep it tight and stay within the line.

Geelong -29.5 points – none

North Melbourne +29.5 points – Dusty, Shan, Big O, Moose Dogs, TRM, Ding Dong, Hollywood

Melbourne -30.5 / Carlton +30.5

These teams only played once in 2016 and that resulted in a 20 point win to the Blues. But the Demons had 10 wins last year and are expected by most to go even better in 2017 and push for a place in the finals.

The Blues get a 30.5 point head start. Can they keep this match closer than last week where the Tigers beat them by 43 points?

Melbourne -30.5 points – Big O, Moose Dogs, TRM, Ding Dong, Hollywood

Carlton +30.5 points – Dusty, Shan

Port Adelaide -23.5 / Fremantle +23.5

There were a few surprise results in round 1 but probably none more so than Port’s 28-point win over Sydney in Sydney. They need to cover a 23.5 point line but if their good form continues and Freo’s bad form continues they might do it with a leg in the air. And I’m not the only one.

Port Adelaide -23.5 points – Dusty, Shan, Big O, Moose Dogs, TRM, Ding Dong, Hollywood

Fremantle +23.5 points – none
