Dusty Lines for Footy Inc.
The final line of season 2017 was won convincingly by the Richmond Tigers. They started the Grand Final as +5.5 point underdogs against the Adelaide Crows but yet again the professional handicappers underestimated the Tigers. They didn’t just win the line, they smashed it. Their 48 point premiership win covered the line by 53.5 points.
This capped off an incredible year where the Tigers won 76% of lines. The Tigers started favourites in 15 of their 25 matches in 2017 winning 18 and losing seven. Of the seven losses, five were by a margin of 14 points or less and two were blow-outs (against Adelaide in round 6 and St Kilda in round 16).
The Adelaide Crows also exceeded expectations in 2017. Despite starting favourites in 24 out of 25 matches they still managed to cover the line 64% of the time. The handicappers kept increasing the lines and the Crows kept covering. Unfortunately for the Crows they were thoroughly outplayed by the Tigers on the MCG in The Big Dance.
Below is the final line ladder for season 2017.
For our resident tipsters it was a pretty miserable effort at tipping the line throughout the season. Only TRM had a positive record (above 0.500) for the year.
Underdogs dominated the line in 2017 winning 56.5% of lines which is a reflection of the evenness of the AFL season that has just been completed.
